Back in 2005 my good friend told me about this gentleman called Alfred Wainwright and the 214 Wainwrights that he wanted to walk. I scoffed at his enthusiasm and these small books he was showing me. The next day we walked up to High Spy, from Little Town, and I distinctly remember saying ‘This is OK but I’ll never get in to walking up mountains’. Oh how I am reminded of that comment time and time again… However, it wasn’t until 2007, when we decided to tackle Helvellyn, that the bug of walking really grabbed me. After slipping and sliding across Stridings Edge and reaching Helvellyn, in my steel toe capped work trainers, I decided that walking was for me and I promptly bought my first pair of walking boots and I haven’t looked back since.
My love for gadgets then complimented my walking. I started off by documenting the walks by camera. Then in 2007 I bought myself a Garmin GPS and logged tracks of our walks. Complimented with mapping software I loved planing routes and studying track logs to see exactly where we had walked and by how much we had missed a pathway. Now in 2011 I have decided to create a website for my walks with links to accommodation where I have stayed and sites I have found useful on my walks.
